AgVentures! Day

Over 1,700 4th grade students from Tulare and Visalia City Schools attend AgVentures! Day every spring to see various agriculture demonstration and presentations. During our “Ag Day” students are encouraged to sample California-grown and harvested fruits, vegetables and dairy products, while learning about healthy choices and nutrition.

The students begin their day with a sheep dog demonstration followed by a short walk past various labeled farm implements and on to four additional interactive learning experiences. These include animal demonstrations related to cows, pigs, horses, sheep, poultry, and pest sniffing dogs! Additionally students participate in booths related to soil, plant, animal, and nutrition science. These booth presentations are produced by area are produced by area leaders/experts such as Visalia’s V-TEC students, Soil Conservationists, 4-H club members, FFA students, Tulare County Farm Bureau farmers, and Advisors from the University of California Cooperative Extension, who are celebrating 100 years of science and service.

After a brief break for lunch, the students receive locally grown food and delicious chocolate milk sponsored by Rosa Brothers Milk, Sun Maid Raisins, Raisels, and Musco Family Olives (Olives To Go).

The final stop for the students was a game show and skit in which contestants make healthy choices from a trivia game.

The International Agri-Center is pleased to host this event for the foreseeable future. Alongside the International Agri-Center, AgVentures! Day is supported in part by the University of California Cooperative Extension, the Tulare County Farm Bureau and Farm Credit West.
